Friday Faves: Ms Glitzy
Vivacious fashion and lifestyle blogger, Ms Glitzy, writes about everything from high fashion to the latest must-visit pig-out spot. When she is not trying out the latest wonder beauty products or partying up a storm at the hottest fashion events in town, she spends time in exciting cities like Hong Kong and New York. Join her on her adventures for a hearty dose of all things fabulous and fun!
After featuring her video tutorial on how to achieve alluring red lips earlier this week, we are happy to see her again so soon on the blog - this time to share five of her favourite things with us!
1. Instagram - My favourite iPhone camera app. I am now addicted to snapping pictures on the go, beautifying it with a retro filter before sharing the photos with my friends! When I am bored, I would dive straight to Instagram to check out others' snapshots. Hope to see you guys on Instagram; I'm "msglitzy"!
2. Latte - I will make it a point to visit a recommended cafe at every city that I visit. I would order a cup of latte and just sit back and enjoy my moment there.
3. Cheongsam - (Nishita Cheongsam by Ong Shunmugam) I am a fan of modified cheongsam dresses that show off the beauty of our Chinese culture, yet flatter different body shapes. Moreover, a cheongsam dress makes us look polished and sophisticated effortlessly.
4. Bold Necklace - (Clad in Chrysanthemums Necklace by Modcloth) I am not a very adventurous dresser, so a statement necklace works wonders in accentuating my day-to-day outfits.
5. Olivia by Olivia Ong - My current ear food. This album consists of mostly covers reinterpreted with jazzy and bossa nova arrangements. It is such an enjoyment listening to Olivia's soothing and soulful vocals. Favourite track: Track 2 I feel the Earth Move.

Street Style: Hard Candy
Sometimes, it is fun to blur the line a little. So today, we blend the sweet with the tough to come up with this street style inspired look that is both pretty and edgy. Deliberately pairing up pieces that at first glance do not go together can reap surprising rewards. Pairing a cute printed top with a leather mini-skirt creates an interesting girl-next-door meets biker chick effect. Chunky gold accessories gives this outfit a dash of day-time glamour while midnight blue nails adds just the right touch of sophistication. Oh, and remember to slip on those paparazzi-worthy over-sized shades!

Trend Focus: Red Lips
[Tom Ford Beauty; YSL SS12. Pictures from Into The Gloss.]
It may not be the easiest thing to carry off, but there is little doubt that red lipstick is a timeless classic and every woman should have (at least) one in her make-up case. Glamourous, sultry and incredibly sexy, bold crimson lips are the anti-thesis to that au natural nude look that defines beauty right now. However, you can bring the two extremes together by keeping the face fresh and clean while letting the lips do the talking (pun intended). Add a sleek of eyeliner and multiple coats of mascara for a stronger night look.
Blogger Ms Glitzy made a handy tutorial to show you exactly how to achieve this alluring red lips look. To make red lips more wearable and less of a statement, keep a neutral palette on the rest of the face and pick a matt lipstick.
[Ms Glitzy will be showing us her 5 of her favourite things this Friday, so watch this space!]
Shopping for the right red lipstick (there is one out there for everyone!) can be a long, laborious affair (much like searching for a soulmate - lots of trial, error and often, disappointment), but that does not mean that you should give up!
Tip: invest in the more expensive, luxurious brands because more often than not, the richness of the pigment counts for a lot.
